(On the use of emoticons in formal haiku - I think it's the next big thing. When you consider how the Imagist and Lost Generation poets embraced both Asian forms and experimental use of punctuation, it really has been a long time coming. I think Matsuo Basho himself would have killed for this minimalist form of communication. And since he was a genuine samurai, that's saying something.)
